A Guide to Buying an Electronic Picture Frame

We now live in an age where the digital camera has taken over from the traditional cameras that needed film. While people still continue to get their digitally shot pictures printed, this too might change quite soon. Technological advances have led a number of fantastic innovations, and one great innovation that is set to revolutionize the way we view images is the electronic picture frame.

While getting images printed onto paper was pretty much the only way one could view pictures until not so long ago; that is no longer the case. One of the reasons that the print form has survived for so long is that viewing them in other forms could be quite time consuming. For instance, if you wanted to view some pictures on your computer, you would first need to start the computer, wait for it to boot up, and so on.

However, this has changed thanks to electronic picture frames. An electronic picture frame would allow you to view your pictures as and when to want to with or without the click of a button. One of the best features of these frames is that they are not limited to displaying just one picture. Besides, you can choose to keep any one picture on display, or have a continual slide show.

The number of pictures that these frames can hold depends on the memory that they come with and the format and quality of the pictures (just as with mp3s in mp3 players). Uploading your pictures on these frames is quite simple. Most of them come with the capability to connect to your computer or camera through a USB cable, and some can directly access pictures from USB drives and memory cards. Newer versions are capable of WI-FI transfers as well.

Another feature to look out for in an electronic frame is if it allows you to view your pictures as filenames or as thumbnails as this would simplify your search for any particular picture, instead of having to go through every one, one by one.

Most of the top end electronic picture frames also double up as media players and allow you to play formats such as mp3, wav, mpeg, QuickTime, and divX. Regular ones can display pictures in formats such as jpeg, gif, bmp, png, tiff, tga, pcx, etc. Some of the newer version also come with internet connectivity capabilities and allow you to upload and download pictures from the World Wide Web.

Electronic picture frames are available in a variety of colors, sizes, and designs and you can surely manage to find one that suits your budget. A simple online search would tell you of what you can afford, and you can then make your pick accordingly.
